On the way up I was pleased to see windmills along the road. They looked so strange and out of place but at the same time I found it cast a calming and serene vibe. Very neat indeed!
We stayed at a hostel in the city on Barrington street. It is part of the Hosteling International company. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was and how wonderful the staff was. It was a great place to stay!
After getting settled in to our rooms at the Hostel we headed over to the Trade Center to get set up for our show.
ACTS (Atlantic Crafts and Trade Show) is an annual event in Halifax. Artists come from all over the maritimes and set up booths to sell wholesale to buyers (store owners) from Canada. This was my first experience with a trade show. Our school and two others had the opportunity to set up a gallery style booth to show our work. We were there to gain knowledge but were not able to sell our product.
The experience was wonderful! It was really great to talk to artists, see new work and gather info and advice on the do's and dont's of trade shows.
Here are a couple photos of our group setting up.

| My Work |
I was pleasantly surprised to win an award during the trip. Each year a student is presented with an award in memory of a wonderful woman and artist, Heather Stone. It is called "The Emerging Artist Award." I was so honored and grateful to receive this award. As a single mother I had sacrificed a lot of time from my son to get to where I am so that I can provide for him and offer him the lifestyle I have choose to live. Receiving the award gave me an extra push and reassurance that the time, passion and effort invested has been worth it.
I also want to say that I believe all the students who attended are wonderful artists. We all work so hard and make such large sacrifices to get to where we envision ourselves as an artist. The journey is a wonderful experience and is full of awesome lessons in life and creativity. I am really lucky to go to a school with so many wonderful minds, so many creative souls, so many artists emerging in their craft.
I also want to mention that I am so lucky to have so many wonderful teachers/mentors. NBCCD is such a wonderful place to thrive as an artist, to grow as an individual and to create yourself and your art at the same time.
Now back to the topic at hand... Halifax. The following are some sites around the town. I am very true to my city of Fredericton, however the overall entertainment/restaurant experience was far beyond what I am used to here in my small town.
